Eight Carat ((b. 1975) Pieces of Eight - Klairessa, by Klairon) is one of the best broodmares to ever stand in Australasia. She is the dam of 5 Group One winners, including champion Octagonal, Mouawad, Kaapstad, Diamond Lover and (Our) Marquise.

Her daughters have also thrown Group One winners. These include Danewin, Don Eduardo and Tristalove.

In turn Eight Carat's granddaughters have produced Viscount, Viking Ruler and Shower of Roses.

Her influence has gone even further as she is the great grand-dam of Emerald Dream and great great grand-dam of De Beers. Eight Carat won the New Zealand Broodmare of the Year a record-equalling three times from 1995 to 1997 due to the deeds of Octagonal and Mouawad.

Eight Carat's descendants Octagonal, Kaapstad, Commands, Danewin, The Commander, Don Eduardo, Viscount and Viking Ruler have all stood as stallions. The first five have sired Group One winners, including Lonhro by Octagonal.
