Eicca Toppinen is a Finnish cellist and songwriter.
He attended the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where he meet Paavo Lötjönen and Max Lilja. Together they founded the cello rock band Apocalyptica. Toppinen also plays drums but calls his skils nowhere near good enough to join another band on that instrument.
After first writing songs for Apocalyptica Toppinen also became involved in the writing of music for various other projects, such as the theatrical performance Paper Rain and the Finnish Film Milja
In 1997 Eicca Toppinen got married to actress Kirsi Ylijoki, they and have two sons; Eelis (born 1999) and Ilmari (born 2002).
