Egophony
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Egophony is an increased resonance of voice sounds, often caused by compressed or consolidated lung tissue due to a pleural effusion, tumor, or congestion. It results in a high-pitched nasal or bleating quality in the affected person's voice. To test for this condition, a doctor will listen to a patient's chest as he or she makes an "e" sound, and if egophony is occurring, the doctor will hear it as an "a".
Egophony comes from the Greek word for "goat," in reference to the bleating quality of the sound. [1]
