Can anyone cite a source in which Edwards is quoted as saying the bit about the dead girl or live boy? Any quotation so profound, with such a propensity to become legendary, ought to be verified now while it still can be. 128.208.36.85 02:35, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

NUMBER: 635 AUTHOR: Edwin W Edwards, Governor of Louisiana QUOTATION: [I could not lose unless I was] caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy. ATTRIBUTION: On 1983 race against David C Treen, recalled on his grand jury indictment for racketeering and fraud, Time 11 Mar 85

12/1/05 - added to text more info on 1987 governor's race = A. Countis

4/16/06 - Someone may want to add in that Edwards and "six associates" were indicted by a Federal grand jury "on charges that they conspired to use the Governor's influence to obtain hospital certificates and sell them for $10 million in profit." (from the New York Times March 10, 1985). I don't know what became of the indictment however.

11/20/2006 It would certainly be nice to have more information on what he did as a governor. Everything here is primarily the campaigns, elections, and indictments. But, that may say it all... Mebobbob 15:14, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Edwin Edwards - DID NOT DESERVE TO GO TO JAIL THE REST OF HIS LIFE

The L-O-V-E of money is the root of all evil. Money CAN be paid back. There are many many Louisianians that are NOT satisfied on what was done to Edwin, including the Judge that sent him to jail, was on drugs when he made that decision. But, was anything done to the Judge? No!

2) If Edwin is a resident of the State of Louisiana, then the whole entire decision should have been left here at home and not sent to T-E-X-A-S for input. There are both State and Federal Courts here at home without any other state taking any action.

3) You can see, poor Edwin is getting older, not enjoying retirement and the right to live. His wife, Penny, left him. So, whoever sent him there, they broke up a home and a relationship.

4) Just like Irag, many of our men are killed, left Mom's with children to raise, give food, education, clothes, etc. Left women with no husband. Left little boys and girls with no daddy's to love them any more.

5) This should be ALL sent to President Bush and the United States of America needs to change some things they do, maybe laws, as well.

6) Remember, always, what is on every dollar bill. "In God We Trust" Is this T-R-U-E? I wonder, sometimes.

7) Edwin does NOT deserve to be in prison to D-I-E in there. All anyone needs to do, is put yourself in his shoes. Again, he did NOT kill anyone, money can be paid back.

8) May God Bless and May God Bless America!
