Edward Shippen

Edward Shippen (b. 1639, Hillham, Cheshire, England; d. October 2, 1712, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) was the second mayor of Philadelphia, from 1701 to 1703. He was also involved in Colonial American Pennsylvania leadership, including serving as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in 1699.
One grandson was Continental Congressman William Shippen; another was Philadelphia Mayor Charles Willing, whose daughter was Mary Willing Byrd; and another, also Edward Shippen, was also a mayor of Philadelphia. A great-great-granddaughter was Peggy Shippen, wife of Benedict Arnold.
