Sir Edward Trenton Richards (born 1908, died 1991) was the first African-American to head the government of Bermuda and the first Premier of Bermuda. He was the leader of the United Bermuda Party (UBP) between 1971 and 1973.

In 1963, Richards welcomed Emperor Haiie Selassie of Ethiopia when Selassie visited Bermuda with this granddaughter Princess Ruth Desta.

A portrait of Richards is one of eighty painted by Esther Dai for display at the Historic Museum in Bermuda.

In December 1971, Sir Edward Richards became Bermuda’s first black Government Leader. In 1973, The Constitution Amendment (Consequential Amendments) Act 1973 changed the Government Leader’s title to the Premier. his title was changed to that of Premier. Richards held the position of Premier until December 1975.
