Educated Rapper
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Educated Rapper (also known as "E.M.D.," or simply "The Brainiac") was a rapper in the hip-hop group UTFO, most famous for their song Roxanne, Roxanne. Educated Rapper originally matriculated from City College before UTFO signed their first record deal.
True to his name, Educated Rapper cultivated an educated, erudite image, humorously contrasting with that of his cohorts [1]. He was born in Hammersmith, a suburb of London and moved to Brooklyn with his family at the age of 15.
When UTFO stopped performing as a full four man unit in 1992, EMD kept his own hip-hop flame alive by continuing to create imaginative and memorable rap lyrics, but with a different goal: dedicating his talents to providing a positive role model to young students. In order to encourage the benefits of education, he vowed to be "specific and prolific" in his goal to reach students worldwide.
"The music scene doesn't have to be about drugs, violence, abuse and alcohol" says The Educated Rapper. True to his name and the image he portrayed (wearing his University sweater and tie), he is a straight A student with a 4.01 average at the College of New Rochelle completing a Baccalaureate Degree in Communications, with a Masters/PhD progam in his scope @ Columbia University.
In the meantime, he continues to delight fans in the underground hip-hop scene. He is called upon for motivational speaking in public schools expounding on themes and issues that concern today's youth. You can find the scholar in your library and local book store devouring books and continually sharpening his game on all levels. With the help of underground hip-hop dance battle legend Willie Green, EMD plans to resurface in the near future.
