Eduardo Atanasio Perez (born September 11, 1969 in Cincinnati, Ohio) is a first baseman in Major League Baseball and is a free agent. He joined the league in 1993 after playing college baseball under head coach Mike Marin for the Florida State University Seminoles. He is the son of baseball Hall of Famer Tony Perez.
On June 15, 2006, the commissioner's office announced that it suspended Randy Johnson for five games for intentionally throwing at Perez the night before; Johnson was expected to appeal. Manager Joe Torre was suspended for one game in connection with the incident. Torre could not appeal his suspension. [1]
On June 30, 2006, Perez was acquired by the Mariners from the Cleveland Indians for Minor League Infielder Asdrubal Cabrera to serve as the team's Designated Hitter against left handed pitchers.
Perez joined ESPN's Baseball Tonight postseason coverage along with current players Eric Byrnes and Vernon Wells, and former player Tino Martinez.
