Édouard Michelin (18591940) was a French industrialist. He was born in Clermont-Ferrand, France. Édouard was co-director of the Michelin company, along with his brother André. In 1889, he improved greatly on the design of the pneumatic tyre for bicycles, making them easier to repair. His company began manufacturing them a short time later. He later developed inflatable tyres for cars, and his company saw tremendous growth serving the fledgling industry around the turn of the century.

His great-grandson, a former CEO and managing partner of the Michelin Group who passed away on May 26, 2006 in a boating accident, was also named Édouard.
