Edoid languages

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Edoid languages are some 25 or 30 languages spoken in Southern Nigeria, predominantly in the former Bendel State. The Edoid group belongs to Benue-Congo, itself a branch of Volta-Congo and ultimately Niger-Congo; the name of the group derives from its most widely spoken member, Edo (1 million speakers). Edoid can be divided into four subfamilies: Delta, North-Central, Northwestern, and Southwestern.
