Edmund Moubray Lyons

Edmund Moubray Lyons was born October 27, 1819, the second son of Admiral Sir Edmund Lyons (later 1st Lord Lyons) and Augusta Louisa (née Rogers).
Edmund entered the Royal Naval College on 1829-07-10. The following is a time line of key events in Edmund Moubray Lyons' Naval career:
- 1838 - Passes examination
- 1841 - Present at the capture of Bocca, Tigns and subsequent operations against Canton. Promoted to Lieutenant. Obtains first commission (June 11) and is appointed as Additional to the HOWE 120
- 1842 - Appointed to the RODNEY 92, Captain Robert Maunsell, March 1
- 1844 - Appointed as Additional to the QUEEN 110, bearing the flag of Sir Edward Owen, January 11. Appointed to the AIGLE 24, Captain Lord Clarence Edward Paget, April 15
- 1845 - Appointed to the TYNE 26, Captain William Nugent Glascock, June 19
- 1846 - Appointed as First to the SIREN 16, Captain Harry Edmund Edgell, April 10 - Commands
Edmund was mortally wounded while engaging the batteries of Sebastopol, June 23, 1855 at Therapia in the Crimea, in command of HMS Miranda. The officers and crew of the Miranda paid for a memorial to him which can be seen today in St Paul's Cathedral, London.
He appears as a character in the books The Valiant Sailors, Hazard of Huntress, and other works by V. A. Stuart. [1]
