Rama's Arrow (talk contribs) Salute to All - I request some of your time in giving me advice and criticism on how I can make myself more useful to the community. I would like to do janitorial work, help other users on a variety of issues and help protect and defend Wikipedia's mission and work. I want to develop a better understanding of how to work with and for the community - I tend to be impetuous, restless, arbitrary and careless at times. I've made mistakes, had some histories with a few users, but I luckily resolved those issues with a positive attitude. Now I'd like to go the full mile with your help. Thanks in advance for giving your time. Rama's Arrow 14:21, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Here are links to my talk archives: 2005 and 2006. Rama's Arrow 15:52, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

I thank everybody for sparing time and encouraging me, letting me know of my virtues and vices. I have taken all the criticism and support to heart. Although I'm archiving this review, you're always free to talk frankly about anything with me. I'm always open to learning and improvement. Rama's Arrow 17:16, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

  • Wow. 4664 edits in March is pretty impressive, and you also appear to be active in India-related collaborations. I haven't checked in detail to see if you've had any problems relating with the community, but I can assume that you've had enough experience over time to learn how to work with people. A quick check of your talk page shows that you haven't had any arguments or disagreements lately -- you've been working with people harmoniously. Keep up the good work! --Elkman - (talk) 15:49, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Most of those edits came through working on category and stub-sorting - I made a mistake by creating stubs by short-circuiting the procedure laid out by WikiProject:Stub Sorting. While not a big issue, it shows that I need some work on my temperament before I can ask for adminship. Rama's Arrow 15:56, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
I admire your honesty. Computerjoe's talk 13:03, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
  • If there is a most improved active wikipedian, it is he, it is he, it is he. he he he, I'm the person he had a conflict with and which I mentioned in my RfA. Rama's Arrow is an asset to WP, make no mistake. In his previous avatar of User:Nirav.maurya, not all his actions may have been Kosher, but since then, he has shown lot of maturity. Also, I don't know if my admin standards had some impact, because he changed his edits per page from 6.xx to 2.xx and I think it is a great demonstration of putting himself to purpose. Apart from the 2 FAs, Wikipedia:Defense of content is a good contribution from his side, especially with the talks of a stable version of WP picking up steam. He seems to realise the need to work on his temperament. Adminship should be no big deal and I expect that he will do a great job as an admin. I believe he has the maturity to either deal calmly or walk away from a scene if things turn ugly. --Gurubrahma 16:19, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
  • I only vaguely remember that some of his actions were undesirable during the September to November issue mentioned by him below. This is primarily because of the phenomenal improvement in his temperament and attitude. Yes, I was a witness to the more recent minor loss of temper with Impumozhi. But, that was a mere coming together of stress on two quality editors, IMO. So, there's no issue AFIK with his attitude now. To ask for a more dispassionate approach (he's passionate about Gujarat, and India) is to lose great featured articles from him as passion is what drives people to create more and more finer articles. As for his writing and research skills, I'm truly amazed. He's perhaps another Nichalp in the making when it comes to FAs. (Hear, we want more!) Adminship shouldn't be an issue at all. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 06:04, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
  • I have only seen Nirav in his new avatar. The conflict he had with Gurubrahma was slightly before I started editing. He has been very helpful to me. His main strength is his great articles. He has had a few articles of his on DYKs. The FAC of Jinnah is a example of his great contribution to wikipedia. And Sardar is yet to follow. He is passionate about the things he likes. He would be a great admin candidate. - Aksi_great (talk) 06:40, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
  • A very very helpful editor. While initial writings of Nirav (Rama's Arrow) show some shortcomings, at present he has much improved. He has many DYKs to his credit. More importantly, he almost singlehandedly brought Lothal, Political integration of India and Jinnah to FA status. Now also, he is working greatly in some articles for improving them to FA standard, like Sardar Patel. In fact, I guess he often has thoughts of Wikipedia even when he is not in front of the computer. In his recent visit to India, he has collected a lot of information and photos to enhance the content of Wikipedia. (he kept the booty secret though!) We have already seen some of those great collections, for example, the photo of the young Rabindranath Tagore in England. That was superb. As a whole, an outstanding editor.--Dwaipayan (talk) 18:08, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
  • You edit very very well. Keep it up. I see many more WP:FA's coming from you -- Samir (the scope) धर्म 08:53, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
  • Well, he nominated me for RFA, so my opinion can hardly be considered dispassioned. However, I'll try my best: I've just gone through his earliest edits (under the User:Nirav.maurya account); these leave much to be desired — especially his attack on Gurubrahma. However, his work on featured articles demonstrates a strong ability to work at consensus-building and collaboration ("team spirit", etc.). If he (and I'm sure he will) properly demonstrates that he has learned from his early wikiexperiences, then no one would be more flattered than I to nominate him for adminship as his need for the janitorial tools arises. In the interim, he should seek to gain a much broader range of janitorial activies (this is me being the perfect hypocrite). For example, he (as a non-admin) is allowed to close AFD debates that result in keep; he could thus keep track of all India-related VFD discussions and process them. But these are just suggestions. He should also seek to be more critical/cynical and blunt in discussions he participates in — along the lines of User:Nichalp's critique at WP:PR and WP:FAC. Overall, as said above, I believe Rama's Arrow is a trusted member of the community. Saravask 07:10, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
  • Nirav needs to get a little more involved with the community. For example getting more involved in the discussions at RFA, WT:RFA, village pump and get more involved in the FAC and PR process. Also would like to see you interact more with non-Indian editors. =Nichalp «Talk»= 16:47, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Questions

  1. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
I've written two FAs - Lothal and Political integration of India - and I'm in process of making two other articles - Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel - FAs. I've done a variety of work on India and Hinduism-related topics. I'm proud of every bit of it. I'd also like to mention the very interesting, stimulating and rewarding experience I had in working on Wikipedia:Defense of content. Even though it doesn't look like it will be adopted, I could obtain a better understanding of how Wikipedia works, how anti-vandalism efforts should work and I enjoyed the feedback from other users.
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
Between September to November, I had conflicts with user:Gurubrahma which grew very intense - at the time I was not thinking in terms of participating on Wikipedia for a long time, and I found his criticism of my work as arbitrary and disrespectful. In turn, I was abusive of him, and commmitted few acts of vandalism and trolling. However I came to develop a lot of respect for him in November, when I started looking at his overall work. We resolved our disputes between December 10-12, 2005, and have cooperated on several projects. I also had some testy interactions with user:ImpuMozhi upon his criticism of Political integration of India - finding most of his criticism unreasonable, I lost my cool. Even though the matter was resolved, I regret not giving a mature response, which I feel I must learn how to.
