Edison Cavani is an Uruguayan football striker. He was born on February 14, 1987, in the city of Salto in Uruguay.
Cavani moved to Montevideo when he was 12 years old. He came through the youth system at Danubio F.C. to make his debut for the first team in 2006. He was part of the Apertura 2006 championship winning squad.
In January 2007 Cavani was selected to join the Uruguay national football team Under-20 squad to play in the 2007 South American Youth Championship in Paraguay. Cavani finished the tournament as topscorer with 7 goals in 9 games, this feat helped Uruguay to finish in 3rd place, earning them a place in the World Youth Championship. After his breakthrough at the 2007 South American Youth Championship, several teams were suggested to have interest in signing Cavani, including Juventus and AC Milan[2]. However, on January 29, 2007, Palermo chairman Maurizio Zamparini announced the signing of the promising Uruguayan footballer[3]. The bid was officially confirmed on January 31.[4]. He made his debut on March 11, 2007 in a home league match against Fiorentina [5] , coming on in the 55th minute with his team 0-1 down and scoring the equalising goal fifteen minutes later.
