[edit] Detail
The mall originally opened in 1979. Original anchors included H.C. Prange Co. and Prange Way at its west and east ends respectively. A single wide concourse stretches between both of these anchor stores, with room for over 20 in-line spaces and several kiosks. It is a low, streamlined structure with typical mall design common in the late-1970s, with Low ceilings and diffused fluorescent lighting allowing the storefront lighting to take more emphasis.
It did not compete directly with Mid-Cities Mall (later retitlted Lakeview Plaza) its sister mall directly to the south. In fact, Edgewater Mall snatched up some of Mid-Cities' tenants who sought more space.
[edit] Today
While the first decade (from opening until 1990) went mostly unchanged, the mall would begin to see a steady decline in foot traffic, and businesses began to leave as the S. Calumet (U.S. 151) corridor at the southwest edge of Manitowoc started to become the retail center of the city.
As of October 2006 the mall has started to see some cleanup of old storefronts, possibly in preparation for new tenants. The current group running the mall is Lakeshore Mall LLC
