[edit] Edgbarrow School
Edgbarrow School has approximately 1100 pupils, who come mainly from Crowthorne Schools, such as Broadmoor School and Oaklands School. Whilst Crowthorne is a small town, it was this year oversubscribed [1]. The school teaches 11-16 year olds, and has some of the best results in Bracknell Forest at GCSE of any non-selective state schools [2].
[edit] Edgbarrow School Site
The school is on the boundary of Wildmoor Heath Nature Reserve and covers approximately 10,000m2 [3]. The school has two large playing fields and one astro-turf, which are shared by Edgbarrow Sports Centre, run by Bracknell Forest Borough Council. The school is split into four main buildings:
- the main block with a small quad consisting of English, Maths, Art, Languages, Drama, Music, CDT (ie. Electronics, Woodwork, Graphics etc)
- Humanities, consisting of Geography, History, ICT (Computing etc), Religious Studies and the School Library
- Science
- Administration, consisting of the central office, conferencing facilities and reprographics.
The latter was constructed in late 2003, whilst the main body of the school was constructed throughout the previous forty years.
[edit] Edgbarrow Sixth Form
Over 120 students [4] study at Edgbarrow Sixth Form. The college has trialled a Fingerprint Recognition system, which teachers have proclaimed to be successful [5]. As well as AS and A level subjects, students can also follow a GNVQ course at Edgbarrow Sixth Form, which is said to be an "equivalent" to four GCSEs [6]. The college is within the top 10% of A Level providers in Great Britain, and for this reason the school will begin construction of a new Sixth Form centre building to allow for the expected increase in student numbers.
