Edgar Manucharyan (b. 19 January 1987, Yerevan, Armenia) is an Armenian football striker currently with AFC Ajax Amsterdam.

He joined the team before the 2005/06 season, and his contract ends 30 June 2011 ([1]). He is considered one of the best talents the Armenian National Team has ever known[citation needed].

The preceding season he played with Armenian champions Pyunik and became top goalscorer in the Armenian league with 21 goals in 22 games. He was also voted Footballer of the Year, and made his way to the Armenia national football team at a very young age. As of February 7 2007 he has been capped 12 times and scored 1 goal.

On 12 July 2006, Manucharyan scored his first goal for Ajax by coming on as a substitute at the beginning of the second half and scoring after 10 minutes. This was a friendly match with a lower league Dutch team, where Ajax went on to win the match 18-0. He has currently scored 3 goals in total for Ajax, two of them in friendly matches. Manucharyan scored his first official goal for Ajax on 2 November against FK Austria Wien.

Manucharyan was also the player who assisted the first ever goal at Arsenal's new Emirates Stadium during Dennis Bergkamp's Testimonial match held on the 22nd July 2006.

Manucharyan also participated in the world famous Amsterdam Tournament 2006, which he came on as a substitute in the 73rd minute against Inter Milan and then the next day, he was in the starting line-up against Manchester United and played for the first half. During the first half, he played a good game and had a couple of moments of great skill to get past Manchester United defenders, to the delight of the crowd. After the match, Olympique Lyonnais and SL Benfica now seem to have an eye on Manucharyan and it is possible that they may want to sign him in the future ([2]),

On the 16th March 2007, Edgar Manucharyan committed to Ajax until the 30 June 2011 by signing a contract extension. The previous deal of the Armenian forward would have expired in the summer of 2008. "I am very pleased that Ajax have so much faith in me," Manucharyan said, after having signed his new deal. "I want to win the championship with Ajax and win trophies. I want to be part of that. Ajax are very important to me and I hope I can be just as important to Ajax."
