[edit] Stage

Their theatre work includes Dirty Dusting (2003), an outrageous comedy, which has played to sell-out crowds on three runs at The Customs House. It transferred to Newcastle’s 1200-seat Theatre Royal (two sell-our runs) before moving to The Kings Theatre, Glasgow, in 2005 where it attracted 18,000 people over two runs. In spring 2006 22,000 people attended the show, starring Adele “Twink” King, at the prestigious Gaiety Theatre in Dublin as part of an Irish tour. In summer 2006 “Dusting” embarked on an English tour of number one venues and will return to Ireland in autumn 2006 by popular demand. It will play internationally from 2007.

When the outrageous comedy Waiting For Gateaux (2005) premiered at the Customs House in April 2005 all 2,000 tickets were sold ten weeks before the first curtain up. It returned by popular demand four months later and again played to full houses.

Waiting For Gateaux premiered internationally in New Zealand at The Fortune Theatre, Dunedin, in June 2006, where it played for three weeks before embarking on a week’s tour of the south island.

Ed and Trevor took up the invitation to speak at the bi-annual New Zealand Aotearoa Playwright’s Conference in June 2006.

Good To Firm (2002), their first play (an outrageous comedy), and its sequel Raising the Stakes (2003), a farce, both played to full houses at the Customs House on their premieres. Good To Firm was subsequently re-run in September 2004 and again played to full houses.

The Revengers (2005) was a departure for the duo – from outrageous comedy to a more serious subject, although it bore the writers’ comedy stamp. It has been heralded as their “best play”.

Which Side Are You On? (2006), is a dark comedy about the death of Margaret Thatcher. It deals with betrayals within a working class family nearly 30 years (and a generation) after Mrs Thatcher was elected Britain’s first female, and most controversial, prime minister The show will premiere in 2007.

Waugh and Wood are currently writing an outrageous comedy play for children that will premiere at the Customs House in summer 2007.

“Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood are rapidly establishing themselves as one of the most commercially marketable brands in British Theatre” – (The Metro, January 11, 2005)
