Ed Kuepper (born Edmund Kuepper in Bremen, West Germany 25th April, 1956) is an Australian guitarist, singer and songwriter. He co-founded the seminal punk band The Saints, the experimental post-punk group The Laughing Clowns and later the grunge-like The Aints. He has also recorded over a dozen albums in his own name with a variety of backing bands, notably The Yard Goes On Forever, The Oxley Creek Playboys and The Institute Of Nude Wrestling.

Kuepper's work under his own name is more pop oriented. In the eighties, his work typified on Electrical Storm through to Today Wonder was largely guitar-oriented pop, often influenced at different points by his growing interest in country music. Much of his later nineties work is constructed in studio using record samples and found sounds, centred around guitar, vocal or piano melodies.

Often his lyrics focus on conflicting romance and difficult (or simply dysfunctional) relationships - such as 'Everything I've got belongs to you' or 'Weeping willow' - or on being an outsider or alien in a hostile environment - exampled by 'Confessions of a window cleaner' and 'Car headlights'. A common technique in his lyrical style is to use unexpected, often visual similes.

Kuepper was awarded ARIAs in 1993 and 1994 for Best Independent Australian Release (and nominated for similar awards in 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998). He was probably Australia's most prolific recording artist in the early nineties.

In recent years, Kuepper has been involved in soundtracking radio drama and experimental films. A new album is slated for release in the first half of 2007.
