Ed Alleyne-Johnson has been busking for over 20 years, since he was a Fine Art student at Oxford University using an electric violin which he hand-carved with a kitchen knife, a custom pedal-board and amp which he modified to run off rechargable batteries. The set-up had enabled him to perform on the street in almost every major city in Europe, across the U.S. and Canada from New York to San Francisco.

He collaborated with New Model Army on their Top 40 single "Vagabonds", and toured with them for five years.

He can often be seen performing in Chester town centre, near the Grosvener shopping precinct.

His own compositions are available on three solo albums:

  • Purple Electric Violin Concerto (1992)
  • Ultraviolet (1994)
  • Purple Electric Violin Concerto II (2001)

Two albums co-written by and performed with his wife, Denyze:

  • Fly Before Dawn (1995)
  • 2020 Vision (1998)

Two albums of cover-versions of his favourite tunes:

  • Echoes (2005)
  • Reflections (2006)

which feature tracks such as 'Sweet Child O' Mine, Clocks'.
