Ecuadorian real

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The real was the currency of Ecuador until 1871. There were no subdivisions but 16 silver reales equaled 1 gold escudo.

Until 1822, the Spanish colonial real circulated, followed by the Colombian real. Ecuador issued its own coinage in 1833, with the Ecuadorian real replacing the earlier currencies at par. The real was replaced by the peso in 1871 at a rate of 8 reales = 1 peso.
