Talk:Economy of Bermuda

Hi, I put that stuff about "for which it is now a world center" in because there's now a bigger pool of re-investment insurance capital available in Bermuda than there is in London, which I thought was notable. Re-insurance is now by far and away the largest sector of the international business in Bermuda - one only needs to look at the giant buildings put up by ACE and XL to see that!
I'll try and dig up some actual statistics and put that all in the article, unless you have some reason why I shouldn't.

Saying it's "a" world centre is just a somewhat biased way of saying it's one of the biggest. But there's no point in arguing about the best way to summarise this important point down to half a sentence -- go ahead and write a paragraph about it.

Will do - it may take me a while to dig up the data, though, as I want to cover two wholly separate points: first, Bermuda's role in the world re-insurance market, and second, re-insurance's role in Bermuda's offshore business sector. I recall the first from an article I saw in RG magazine while waiting in the Bank of Bermuda one day, but finding the data online may be a bit tricky. -- Noel Chiappa

According to [1], which is supported by the Royal Gazette, Bermuda's main newspaper, "Bermuda-based companies provide 30%, the largest block, of Lloyd's total capacity", which I think qualifies it to call itself "a world center" for re-insurance. Noel (talk) 03:50, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)
