The EBS Building Society is Ireland's largest building society. Servicing more than 400,000 members, it distributes its products through its branch network as well as handling direct business both over the telephone and through the internet. Its name originally derives from Educational Building Society, but it has been changed to EBS Building Society to better explain its activities. It is the last remaining Irish building society owned by its members. With branches throughout Ireland, alongside a headquarters in Dublin's main business district, EBS offer mortgages, loans and savings accounts.
As they are not a bank, they do not offer current accounts. However, through an agreement with AIB bank, an ATM card service for their members is operated through AIB's Banklink system, thus outsourcing this task to AIB. Credit cards are offered in conjunction with MBNA.
EBS have won the Irish Times award as "Best Company to work for in Ireland for 500-1000 employees"[citation needed].
