[edit] debate on exact division of east and west kent
there has been much discussion in the "Medway News" about the boundary and it turns out that Rochester, Chatham and Gillingham are in west Kent, but the old Swale area that included Rainham is east Kent.
apparently there are boundary stones and named pubs and other stuff that shows the boundary
the correspondence in the paper suggests that using the Medway as the border was just a simple explanation for outsiders
[edit] Fanciful idea!
Surely the whole thing is now a somewhat fanciful idea, kept alive by the Association of Men of Kent and Kentish Men!!!!! I have rewritten the article in line with the West Kent one to make this less like saying that it exists: beyond the Association, and local newspapers, who cares? [edit] "Category:Former administrative counties"
Noticed you've put East Kent and West Kent in Category:Former administrative counties. I'm not sure what formerly constitutes a "former administrative county" but I'm pretty certain that there never was a East or West Kent in the administrative sense (as there was with East and West Suffolk for example) since the distinction between East and West Kent in an administrative sense had disappeared by the time the KCC was set up (late Victorian era sometime). - Mmm, I wasn't sure which of "Former admin"'s sister categories to put it into - it belongs in one or t'other of them. Neddyseagoon - talk 19:24, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
- Having a look around I don't think they are any of them. East and West Kent are (IM*H*O) are just geographical expressions. Pickle 19:56, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
- Well, they both need some cat or other - maybe only Category:Kent is really suitable? Neddyseagoon - talk 20:05, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
- I agree that its hard to think of suitable cats for these two article, probably just Category:Kent Pickle 20:37, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
