The only noteable evidence I have found is the phrase "Home of the Indians!" on the school's official website. Do you (or anyone else) have any evidence to cite supporting or refuting that the mascot is an indian? --ElKevbo 20:52, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Oh, I thought you meant it backed up the manatee claim, TeaDrinker. No, the website does, in fact, back up the fact that the mascot is the Indian because it still is. Reading comprehension error on my part. TheRaven7 00:21, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Problems with unsourced claims

This article had a number of unsourced claims that I removed. Particularly I am concerned about calling the area an "immigration region", the assertion that the name "Fighting Indians" is "non-politically correct", and the claim that FCAT scores were a "D" for the school. While it may be "True" that this is the case, the standard for inclusion in Wikipedia is not "Truth", but rather it is verifiability. Unsourced and poorly sourced claims made in articles should be removed.

The FCAT has a web page at http://fcat.fldoe.org/default.asp where you can look up East Bay High School's scores. In no place is the score of the school rated a "D", and while it certainly appears that East Bay High School has much room for improvement, it doesn't look like their scores are very far out of line from other schools in the state. They look like they are slightly below average in a couple of areas and slightly above average in others. In any case, it isn't up to Wiki editors to interpret these results. We can cite reliable sources that comment about the scores, so if Jane Doe, a reporter for the local newspaper, writes that "East Bay scores a D" -- then we can include that information.

I also removed the silly section about "Criticism" or "Controversy", which appears to be the complaint of an editor that attends the school. This information is what Wikipedia calls original research and it isn't allowed. We can only include information that has been verifiable published by reliable sources.

Feel free to add whatever information you want to the article, but make sure that you CITE YOUR SOURCES! Vivaldi (talk) 04:40, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Great job, Vivaldi, for feeling the need to edit a page you know nothing about. Of course the FCAT website doesn't say anything about the D score, because the school scores given because of FCAT scores are separate from the actual FCAT scores of the students in the school. I don't understand why you felt the need to delete it instead of just using the {{fact}} tag that you used on everything else, like what towns are adjacent to Gibsonton (stupid).

Also, I'm glad you're concerned that I think calling Native Americans "Indians" when they in fact aren't from the country of India is not politically correct, I am concerned that you are concerned.

And let me ask you about your stupid little thing about the original research crap. What you're saying is that my information is not reliable UNTIL I GET SOMEONE ELSE TO SAY IT? How does that make any sense whatsoever? By just having a local reporter say something second-hand, that makes the information so much more reliable than a primary source, but by the same token if that same local reporter were to put the information into this wikipedia article herself, it wouldn't be reliable because that would be original research on her part? Segin. Please tell me what sources you are using to determine that the only people who will ever visit this article are those directly involved in the school. First thing, I am here and I am not involved with the school. Secondly, that is not a reason to speedy delete an article. Maybe I am missing something here, but you seem to be awfully quick with the speedy delete. Chill. You can respond with your reasons on my talk page.Caper13 19:26, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
