[edit] History
The promotional campaign for the album was typical for a release by an established musical artist, particularly as Chicane had just moved from independent dance label Xtravaganza Recordings to major label Warner. Lead single "Love on the Run", with vocalist Peter Cunnah (co-founder and singer of dance-pop group D:Ream), was being distributed in promotional copies as early as September 2002.[1] Also produced to accompany the single were remixes by Blank & Jones and Rob Searle, and a music video which cost £18,000 in production.[2]
"Love on the Run" was officially released in February 2003, performing poorly on the UK Singles Chart compared to the lead singles for Chicane's two previous albums, "Offshore" and "Saltwater".[3] The B-side was "Arizona, Part 1", complementary to part 2 on the album itself.
Sometime afterwards in 2003, promotional copies of the album itself were released, alongside a promotional single of "Locking Down" (with remixers including Dead Guys, of which Joel Edwards of Deepest Blue is member of, and Kurtis Mantronik). Some copies of "Locking Down" were a double A-side with "Daylight" (which received a remix by ATB).
However, the album was not officially released afterwards in most regions. This is generally attributed to bootlegging and the Internet leak of the contents of the promotional album.[4] The original "mid-September" 2003 release was first delayed to "early 2004" with an announcement on the official Chicane website in late 2003. December 2003 saw a second announcement that two new songs were being written to be added to the album, with one to become a single; another announcement in May 2004 placed the single release in June and album release July. June saw both releases being delayed to "autumn" of 2004, and by August the album was said to be simply "on hold".[5]
In October 2004, "East Side Story" was released by Bryan Adams in a re-recorded version on the album Room Service.
In 2005, a music video for 'Something Wrong' was directed by James Heath, co-founder of Burning Vision Entertainment, to form part of an EPK put together at the time. The video was never used for promotional purposes, as Bracegirdle had left Warner by this point.[6]
Bracegirdle himself remained in low profile, aside from live shows, until March 2006, when the new Chicane single release "Stoned in Love", with vocalist Tom Jones, was announced, along with an entirely new album.[4]
