[edit] History
Eastside was established in 1970 when 650 students from Wade Hampton, Lincoln, Greer, and J.L. Mann High Schools were filtered in. Mr. John Durr was Eastside's first principal. He established the school motto, "Strength Through Human Understanding," which laid down the principles for the school.
During its first year, Eastside established school colors of royal blue and gold, chose the eagle as its mascot, and began printing of its school newspaper, "The Eagle's Cry."
By 1973 the student body of Eastside had doubled, and by 1980 the student enrollment had soared to 1400, giving it the right to be a 3A school in athletic competitions. Since its inception, Eastside has seen eleven principals. Two of these principals were female.
