[edit] History
Eastleigh was a fairly safe Tory seat for nearly forty years until the bizarre and accidental death of it's then MP,former journalist Stephen Milligan,in 1994.At the subsequent by-election,the Liberal Democrats gained the seat on a very large swing, and have since held Eastleigh in the three following General Elections, though with somewhat narrow majorities. The current MP,Chris Huhne,is rapidly gaining status as a high-flyer for the Lib-Dems (he stood as a candidate for party leader in 2006,and finished runner-up) ,though he will perhaps need to work hard to stave off a strong Conservative challenge in the next General Election with a majority of only 568 votes in his favour.
