Eastgate, Washington

Eastgate is a census-designated place (CDP) in King County, Washington, United States. It is generally considered to be part of the city of Bellevue, though not all of it is within the city limits. The population was 4,558 at the 2000 census.

Based on per capita income, one of the more reliable measures of affluence, Eastgate ranks 38th of 522 areas in the state of Washington to be ranked.

Eastgate is located at 47°34′19″N, 122°8′19″W (47.572005, -122.138509)GR1.

Much of Eastgate is on the northwest flank of Cougar Mountain. Immediately to the west is Factoria. Eastgate is at exit 11-A along I-90, which flows east-west along Eastgate's north side. Issaquah is to the east along I-90, and I-405 is a short distance to the west. Eastgate meanders in and around both incorporated and unincorporated areas of the city limits of Bellevue.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.3 km² (1.3 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 4,558 people, 1,708 households, and 1,233 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,396.7/km² (3,629.7/mi²). There were 1,743 housing units at an average density of 534.1/km² (1,388.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 83.11% White, 1.62% African American, 0.57% Native American, 9.68% Asian, 0.35% Pacific Islander, 1.97% from other races, and 2.70% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.45% of the population.

There were 1,708 households out of which 32.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.2% were married couples living together, 8.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.8% were non-families. 18.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.66 and the average family size was 3.04.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 34.9% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 104.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 103.6 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $65,598, and the median income for a family was $67,288. Males had a median income of $52,090 versus $37,547 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $29,878. About 0.8% of families and 3.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.6% of those under age 18 and 2.0% of those age 65 or over.

Eastgate is mostly residential, but the adjacent I-90 corridor has a number of office buildings and retail establishments, particularly in Factoria just to the west.

On the national level, Eastgate is a stronghold for the Democratic Party. In 2004, Democrat John Kerry received just under 60 percent of the area's vote, while Republican George W. Bush came in just short of 39 percent.
