Eastern Swing

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An early evolution of Foxtrot which used the conversation position (now known as promenade) and breakaway position (taken from Charleston (dance) and now known as open position). This dance along with Shag were taken from early Fox Trot forms and done to Swing Music. A major evolution is the usage of turns and open/breakaway position. Triple Steps were taken from the Fox Trot that in turn had borrowed them from the Two Step. This dance was the one of the most popular forms of Swing era dances, second only to Fox Trot, due to its ease of learning for Fox Trot practioners. This dance has always stayed preserved independently. Though, Eventually, this form merged with/influenced Lindy Hop and both 6 & 8 count patterns emerged as well as triple steps in Lindy Hop. Eastern swing has spurred several evolutions namely; East Coast Swing, Jive, Street Hustle, Rope Hustle, Rock & Roll, and (European) Boogie Woogie.
