Lehigh and Cornell have been two of the most successful EIWA schools recently, with the Lehigh Mountain Hawks a consistent top ten team in the last ten years, with a schedule that has featured some of the nation's toughest wrestling teams. With their 2006 win, they have six straight EIWA Championships. Cornell placed fourth at the national tournament in 2005.

The league generally has the third-highest number of All-Americans at the NCAA Championships, behind the Big Ten and Big 12.

The 2005 EIWA conference tournament marked the 100th anniversary of the conference.
