[edit] Fire

On November 1, 2006, a fire broke out in a chemistry lab office. The school was severely damaged and has been declared a total loss. Currently, the school is being demolished due to safety concerns. The 1,059 displaced students have been split up, with 9th and 10th grade students going to the former North Carolina school of the deaf (now being called the Joint Millenial Campus) in Browns Summit northeast of Greensboro, while the 11th and 12th graders are going to the East Wendover campus of Guilford Technical Community College located on the eastern edge of Greensboro. School officials say a new main building will not be ready until at least August 2009.

On December 7, 2006, it was reported that the cause of November 1 fire was ruled as arson, and a $5,000 reward was being offered for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for setting the fire. The following day, the reward was raised to $7,000. [1]
