East River Crawler

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The East River Crawler is an amusement ride at Six Flags Great America.

[edit] History

The East River Crawler opened in 1976 and was an original "Marriott Attraction". ERC was originally known as The Lobster. It was built in the Yankee Harbor section at Great America. It was known as The Lobster until 1992 when Batman the Ride opened. To go along with the Batman theme, Lobster was renamed East River Crawler and received a slightly modified paint job. Originally it was black and dark orange, the orange was repainted purple. Also, large painted lobsters carved into the concrete surrounding the ride were removed.

During the park's Fright Fest event, the ride transforms into Monster Mash, which is basically the same ride experience, but a disco ball is added and the songs Monster Mash, Purple People Eater and Rock Lobster are played.
