From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

East Haven Academy is a public magnet school located in East Haven, Connecticut that enrolls children entering grades 3-8. It opened its doors in September, 1997. In 2005, "EHA" was recognized as a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.

[edit] Basic Facts

East Haven Academy is currently located in a wing of the old East Haven High School building. This is the original location of the school. Beside the one wing, EHA has access to the old high school's auditorium. They used to use the gymnasium, but it is now closed due to a flood in the beginning of the 2006-07 school year. Gym classes are now hold in the cafeteria, weight room, and/or the field outside in the back.

In the 2005-2006 school year, the enrollment is approximately 234 students.

[edit] History

East Haven Academy was the vision of its principal, Dolores Butcher. Mrs. Butcher introduced the first year of EHA as a cooperative effort of not only the teachers and students, but the parents as well. In the months before the school opened, students, parents, and teachers took time out from their summer vacations to create a number of policies exclusive to the school and to perform minor renovations on the building that houses the Academy. The new principal in 2006-2007 is to be Angela Speck, since Mrs. Dolores Butcher retired this past year, 2006.

[edit] School song

The school song was written by students enrolled in the 1997-1998 school year at East Haven Academy.

EHA,
Look at our school right now.
We made ourselves a promise;
One that can be sung.
We made a wish.
Our wishes have come true.
We will work together to excel,
and it never would have happened if we hadn't made a wish.
We'll help to make this town a better place.
