East Grand Rapids Public Schools

East Grand Rapids Public Schools is a school district located within East Grand Rapids, Michigan. Founded in 1841, the district limits mirror the city limits except for a small grouping of homes north of the city. Standard and Poors has reported that "none of Michigan's school districts report higher excelling rates."
According to SchoolMatters.com, East Grand Rapids Public Schools enrolled 2,860 students in 2004 making it rather small by state standards.
The school district prides itself in athletic achievement having won 101 state championships in its history, a Lower Peninsula record.
The East Grand Rapids Public School system consists of five schools: Breton Downs Elementary, Lakeside Elementary, Wealthy Elementary, East Grand Rapids Middle School, and East Grand Rapids High School. East Grand Rapids' school colors are blue and yellow, and their mascot is a Pioneer.
EGR's administration building is now named the James E. Morse Administration Building (formerly Woodcliff), named after the recently-retired former superintendent, Dr. James Morse.
The current superintendent of East Grand Rapids public schools is Dr. Sara Shubel, who began her tenure in the fall of 2006.
