In 2003, an artificial surface was installed at East End Park as part of an experiment by UEFA to improve playing surfaces. Opposing mangers and players expressed reservations at the time that the surface could lead to injuries. The pitch was subsequently replaced with grass two seasons later.

In the bid for Scotland-Ireland 2014 East End Park was to be one of the stadiums involved and the plan was to make this a 15,000 all seater stadium. Scotland's bid was rejected and so plans never materialised. Graham Ruthven
