East Amherst is the zipcode, area of the Town of Amherst, which straddles the boundary known as Transit Road (NY 78) separating the towns of Amherst and Clarence in Erie County, New York, United States of America. East Amherst covers approximately 15 square miles and is contained entirely within the perimeter of ZIP code 14051 (The nearby hamlet of Swormsville also shares this ZIP code with East Amherst).

East Amherst is centered in an area originally known as "Transit Station," a name that has its origins in the railroad station of the New York Central “Peanut Line” that crossed Transit Road just north of Muegel Road. As its farmlands were developed into residential subdivisions, the area was re-named by private developers "East Amherst" was thought to give the new residents a contrived sense of prestige..

The United States Census 2000 found that this zipcode near Buffalo, New York has a population of 17,991 and 6,280 housing units.

The central offices of the Williamsville Central School District are located in East Amherst as are 3 of its 14 schools (Dodge Elementary School, Transit Middle School, and Williamsville East High School).

Fire protection is primarily provided by this community’s namesake, East Amherst Fire Department, as well as by Swormville Fire Company and Clarence Center Volunteer Fire Company.
