Earl of Ranfurly

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The title Earl of Ranfurly, of Dungannon in the County of Tyrone, was created in the Peerage of Ireland in 1831 for the 2nd Viscount Northland, and is the last Earldom created in that Peerage that is still extant. The title is pronounced "Ran-fully".

Lord Ranfurly holds the subsidiary titles Viscount Northland, of Dungannon in the County of Tyrone (1791), and Baron Welles, of Dungannon in the County of Tyrone (1781), in the Peerage of Ireland, and Baron Ranfurly, of Ramphorlie in the County of Renfrew (1826), in the Peerage of the United Kingdom.

Despite its territorial designation and the fact that it is in the Peerage of Ireland, the Earldom (like the UK Barony) refers to the village of Ranfurly in Renfrewshire.

The family seat is Maltings Chase, near Nayland, Suffolk.
