Earl of Mountrath
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Earl of Mountrath was a title in the Peerage of Ireland created on 6 September 1660, along with the titles Viscount Coote and Baron Coote for Charles Coote. On the death of the 7th Earl in 1802, the earldom became extinct.
On the death of the 1st Earl, the viscountcy and the barony followed another remainder to the 1st Earl of Bellomont and became extinct on the death of the 5th Viscount (and 5th Earl) in 1802.
On 31 July 1800, the 7th and last Earl was created Baron Castle Coote (Peerage of Ireland) which - under a special remainder - became extinct on the 3rd Baron's death in 1827.
The Earls also held an Irish baronetcy (of Castle Cuffe), which had been conferred on the first Earl's father, Sir Charles Coote, in 1621; on the 7th Earl's death the baronetcy passed to another line of Sir Charles's descendants, and remains extant.
