[edit] Background
Earl Ray Douglas is the Executive Producer of the Ron and Fez Show on XM Satellite Radio Channel 202 The Virus and 92.3 Free FM WFNY-FM in NYC.
Douglas used to work at WNEW-FM during the tenure of radio personalities Opie and Anthony and Ron and Fez, and previously worked with legendary deejay Scott Muni. He was known as the "survivor", because he endured several format changes at WNEW, including the ill-fated "blink experiment". Hailing from Queens, New York, he is known as "Black Earl" because he is an African American who wears uniformly black clothing, usually topped with a black baseball cap.
[edit] Joining the Ron and Fez Show
Earl was producer of The Ron and Fez Show since it premiered on XM in September 2005. Radio host Gregg "Opie" Hughes suggested Earl for the job, despite persistent doubts among staff associated with the Ron and Fez and Opie and Anthony shows.
[edit] The Black Rock Coalition
Earl is a prominent supporter of the Black Rock Coalition. He hosted the first (and to date, last) Black Rock Coalition Radio show on XM Satellite Radio. Also known as BRC radio, the show debuted in November 2005, on Saturday at midnight, on Channel 202 The Virus (then known as XM 202 High Voltage). Although he was not asked to host another show, Earl still considers the endeavor a success.
[edit] Recent News
In early January 2007, Douglas was "diagnosed" by Ron Bennington with "Fainting Goat's Disease", a rare aliment known to cause radio producers to faint when shocked with the horrible details of a former producer's sexual exploits that left him with a broken penis swollen three times its size (to resemble an eggplant).
Earl has been nicknamed "Sapphire" because of his working relationship with The Midnight Rider, the new associate producer of the daytime show, who speaks in a dialect reminiscent of Dusty Rhodes. (Giving Earl the moniker of the black woman who has managed Dusty Rhodes could be considered logical).
[edit] Stories Mentioned
- Earl adamantly believes that baby dinosaurs were aboard Noah's Ark and that the Earth has only been in existence for 6000 years.
- In late September of 2006, Earl started listing his picks for college football games. This led to a six-week winning streak of gambling during which Ron called him "Mister Perfect", and evidently won a great deal of money. His seventh pick on November 10, 2006 failed however, and Ron evidently lost much money on the bet. That weekend, Earl called an XM executive at home to complain at length about the unfair pressure of having to make the picks. (It seemed that he did not show up for work the following Monday, when he later called in to the show to apologize -- but revealed that he was hiding in an office in the building).
- Claims to be friends with Rolling Stone Ron Wood and vowed to bring him on the Ron and Fez show before the end of Spring 2007. His connection to the rock legend stems from the fact that he said "hi" to him in 1993 when he was a receptionist at WNEW.
- Being the first African American shock jock radio producer, Earl feels that he has paved the way for future African American shock jock radio producers.
[edit] Trivia
- Appeared on MTV gameshow, Remote Control (game show).
- Enjoys Ginger Ale flavored soft drinks.
