The title of Earl Cowper (pronounced "Cooper") was created in the Peerage of Great Britain in 1718 for Lord Cowper, the longtime Lord Chancellor of Great Britain. The title became extinct upon the death of the 7th Earl in 1905. The Earls bore the subsidiary titles of Viscount Fordwich (1718) in the Peerage of Great Britain and Baron Cowper (1706) in the Peerage of England.
