[edit] Summary

Jeremie finally completes his materialization program and prepares to bring Aelita into the real world. At the same time, Jim's suspicions of the group have risen to the point that he's actively trying to discover their secret.

[edit] Recap

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

It all starts out with Jeremie working on Aelita's materialization program. He gives the program seven trial runs to be absolutely sure it works. The program is effective in all seven simulations. In an excited tone of voice, he calls Yumi and she starts making the preparations.

In the kitchen of the Ishiyama's suburban home Mr. Ishiyama is shoveling soba noodles into his mouth with chopsticks. Yumi enters the room and asks her parents if her "pen-pal" can stay at the house. Her father puts down the noodle bowl and says that Yumi has left him and her mother in the dark on this pen pal. They want to know about her before allowing her into their home. Mr. Ishiyama asks what the pen-pal's name is. Yumi immediately says, "Aelita...um..." she hesitates and then grabs a name out of the air, "Lyoko. Aelita Lyoko." Hearing this name, Mr. Ishiyama asks Yumi if Aelita is Japanese. Yumi responds in the affirmative. The next question is if Aelita's parents are employed or not. Yumi says, "Yes. They work in...um...computers." This information, coupled with Aelita's supposed heritage, pleases the Ishiyamas. They consent to Aelita staying. Yumi thanks her parents profusely and hugs her father, kissing him. She runs out the door and her parents smile.

At Kadic Junior High School, events are unfolding in the Headmaster's office. Odd and Ulrich are with the Headmaster. Odd gives a forged note from his parents recommending Aelita to Kadic. Headmaster Delmas reviews that note and comments that Aelita certainly has excellent qualifications, but he admits that she is an enigma to him. Headmaster Delmas asks Odd where Aelita is from. Odd scratches his back nervously and spits out the first country that comes to mind. "She's from...uh...Holland." Headmaster Delmas nods his head and agrees to enroll Aelita in the school.

When they come exit the Administrative Wing, Jim is there and asks Odd and Ulrich what they are doing in the building. Ulrich simply tells him that he and Odd had an appointment with the Headmaster.

Outside the two boys tell Yumi that events have been set in motion that will allow Aelita to live the life of a normal schoolchild. Suddenly, Jeremie calls them and tells them to accompany him to his dormitory. Sissi and her gang sees them leave. Jim then comes up to Sissi and her accomplices and asks if they know the whereabouts of Jeremie, Ulrich, Odd and Yumi. Clearly he is still suspicious of the activities of Team Lyoko. Sissi tells Jim that she saw the four friends headed for Jeremie's room.

In Jeremie's room the gang huddles around Jeremie's desktop computer. Jeremie has the materialization program on an unmarked compact disk. He displays it to the group and then places it onto a pile of other unmarked CDs. Aelita pops up onscreen via a window and greets everyone and asks them what the occasion is. Jeremie, with visile elation, tells Aelita, "We are waiting for you here!" Aelita's face lightens up and she says in a breathless voice tinged with euphoria, "Really?!?" Yumi tells Aelita that the group has made preparations so that the digital AI can finally come to Earth. Aelita goes offscreen overjoyed. Jeremie grabs one of the unmarked CDs and the gang readies to go into the hallway. However, they run into Jim who is blocking the doorframe. The campus supervisor tells the group members that they aren't leaving this spot until they tell him what they are up to. Serendipity is on the group's side, however, as Headmaster Delmas is walking down the hallway at that moment. He sees Jim interrogating the students and tells his employee to stand down and tells Jim to drop his conspiracy theories about secret passageways. Jim folds to the pressure and the kids go free.

In the Factory, Ulrich, Yumi and Odd get transferred, scanned and virtualized into Lyoko. They appear in the Forest Sector where they meet Aelita. Their mission: to take Aelita to the Tower where she can be materialized.

When they are virtualized, Jeremie inserts the disk into the drive. Suddenly, a music video featuring Odd in sunglasses singing "Break, Break, Break Dance!" pops up on one of the side monitors. As Odd dances around some sixth grade girls he included as dancers in his video, Jeremie bemoans his error. He tells the gang to hold tight while he returns to school to get the right disk.

In the Forest, Aelita is peering around a large tree stump while Ulrich asks Odd, "You made a music video?" Odd responds in the affirmitive. When Ulrich inquires as to the title, Odd starts singing "Break, Break, Break Dance!"

Jeremie is back on campus and is running past the Track where Jim is holding P.E. classes. Out of the corner of his eye he notices Jeremie running past the Science Building. Jim tells the class to teach itself (a rather hateful statement) and takes off after Jeremie.

In his dorm Jeremie grabs the correct CD and about-faces to find Jim blocking his progress. Jim promptly tells the boy genius that this is the end of the line and the secrets will be spilled, since the Headmaster is not present to save the group. In response to this, Jeremie chooses outright defience. He pushes up his glasses and fakes a move. He dodges right but ducks out from under Jim and runs down the hall. Jim chases after him cursing the whole while. Jeremie rounds the corner and rapidly descends the stairwell. With Jim yelling in the background, the lobby is in sight. Suddenly, Jeremie trips down the last flight of steps and collapses on the floor in front of a group of eighth graders. Jim sees this from the top of the landing and his attitude changes from livid to concerned. He maneuvers to help Jeremie, who makes a desperate attempt for escape. He doesn't get more than a couple of meters before collapsing. Jim kneels at Jeremie's side. Heidi Klinger, one of the assembled students, tells Jim that he's gone crazy.

In Lyoko, the group is lounging around in a Tower. Yumi wonders aloud where Jeremie is, as he has been gone for an unusually long time. Suddenly, the Tower shakes violently. The group heads outside to find that XANA has shown his hand. A lone Megatank is firing on the Tower, attempting to destabilize it and prevent Aelita's materialization. Ulrich, Yumi and Odd attack the Megatank.

At Kadic, Jeremie is in the Infirmary with his leg wrapped up in ice and him propped up on a bed. Jeremie asks if he can leave, but Yolande Perraudin denies his request.

Outside in the hallway, Jim is sitting on a row of seats with a guilty look on his face. Headmaster Delmas approaches Jim and scolds him, telling his employee that his paranoia has gone too far and an injury has occurred as a result. Headmaster Delmas then says, "I'm sorry Jim, but I'll have to let you go." He walks away silently while Jim falls into the metaphorical canyon of despair.

Before taking his immediate leave, Jim decides to make amends with Jeremie. He walks into the Infirmary (Yolande has exited) and apologizes to Jeremie, saying he was so sure they had a secret. Jeremie doesn't respond at first, but soon hatches a plan. He admits to Jim that there actually was a secret. Jim pounces on the revelation, demanding details. Jeremie strikes a "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" bargain with Jim. If Jim helps Jeremie, the latter of the two will tell Headmaster Delmas everything so Jim can retain his job. Jim agrees to this quid-pro-quo deal and is next seen piggybacking Jeremie through the Park. Jeremie plays backseat driver, guiding Jim to the manhole cover. As Jim opens the manhole cover and walks through the Sewers he keeps saying, "I knew it! I knew it!"

On the Cathedral Hall of the Factory, Jeremie is giving Jim the history of the war with XANA in a nutshell and what needs to be done to stop the virus. Jim has shown a change of heart since Jeremie's injury and is now thrilled to help. While Jeremie talks, Jim is seen in a "James Bond" pose with his hands in the "Gun Finers" position. He walks around and pretends to shoot invisible targets. Jeremie takes Jim down to the Lab. When the doors open Jim is awed by the technology and whispers, "Well will you look at that..."

The Megatank has gained the upper hand in battle. Odd tries to put his "roll the tank" strategy into play. (He has done this before. See "Routine"). However, before Odd can get the tank's Eye of XANA into his sights the tank fires, devirtualizing him. Yumi soon follows, leaving Ulrich alone with Aelita.

When the two devirtualized kids go up to the Lab in the elevator, Yumi says "Jeremie, Ulrich and Aelita are...." and Yumi and Odd see Jim standing there. The two stop in their tracks, dumbstruck and confused. Jeremie puts their fears to rest tells his friends that Jim is part of the gang now.

In Lyoko, Ulrich destroys one of the Megatanks with his Triplicate.

Jeremie inserts the disk and gets ready for the materialization progress. Jim, watching Ulrich's icon on the screen, pumps his fist in the air yells out, "Go Ulrich! Show this XANA thing who’s the boss!"

XANA makes a last desperate gamble to abort the materialization of Aelita. Another Megatank appears and gets ready to attack. It fires, spreading its shockwave laser towards the vulnerable Tower. Ulrich attepts to block the laser's progress with his saber. This seems to work, as the shockwave is parried and its progress slowed.

Meanwhile Jeremie is materializing Aelita, who has entered the Tower.

Ulrich, under great strain, says that he cannot block anymore. He gives up and is knocked back by the shockwave laser and promptly devirtualized. With its opponent incapacitiated, the Megatank turns its crosshairs on the Tower. It fires over and over again, knocking the Tower back and forth like a punching sock. Inside the Tower the entire structure is shaking, being further damaged by each hit. Aelita rises serenely upwards though as her materialization begins. She hovers in mid-air, arms outstreatched. Jeremie yells, "Code: EARTH!" The various binary code displays surround Aelita and she is swept from view in a swath of light before the Megatank can take the Tower offline.

In the Scanner Room, Yumi is holding Ulrich while Odd, Jeremie and Jim are waiting for Aelita. The lefthand Scanner emits steam and opens up. The onlookers peer into the contraption to see Aelita, dressed in street clothes, curled up on the Scanner floor. A subdued and excited Jeremie says, "She's here at last" with a smile on his face and a gleam in his eyes. He then says, "Welcome to Earth!" Aelita opens her eyes and everyone cheers.

Spoilers end here.

[edit] Trivia

[edit] Cinematic Notes

  • When Jim is looking from behind the tree, his band-aid is on the wrong side of his face.
  • Jeremie's dream where he comes in contact with Aelita and Yumi's conversation with her teacher to get out of class are recycled from "Frontier" and "Rock Bottom?", respectively.
  • When Jim chases Jeremie down the corridor, the scene is recycled from the previous episode, "Ghost Channel". When looked at closely, Jim's skin is seen to be zombified gray and clammy and he does the same grunts.
  • When Aelita is waiting at the passage tower, the tower is red as if it's activated. Later on, it turns blue, then back to red again. Xana may have tried to take over the tower.
  • In the tower, Odd is "happy" and he's waving his tail around a lot. Aelita is then seen batting it around a bit.
