E minor (Em, Mim) is a musical minor scale based on the note E, consisting of the pitches E, F♯, G, A, B, C, D and E (natural minor scale - the harmonic minor scale contains a D♯ instead of a D). Its key signature consists of one sharp.

Its relative major is G major, and its parallel major is E major.

Changes needed for the melodic and harmonic versions of the scale are written in with accidentals as necessary.

For a classically tuned guitar, E minor is the most characteristic key, since the tonic chord is available using as many as four open strings.
