[edit] Hi

Hey Eugene, I found you on Wiki from the MCI entry (thanks for reverting that). Never got a chance to congratulate you on your acceptance to Harvard grad school, so congratulations! Hope to see you at the MCI 40th reunion.

Cheers, Matt Wong

[edit] Oops

Eugene:

Apologies for my arrogant remarks on the Oseltamivir edit. Bad results in lab made me a little irate... anyway, thanks for your work on that page. --chodges 03:41, 18 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] you make a mistake on Image:Tamiflu.gif

you see your TM is not Oseltamivir, there are 3-pentyl linked to oxygen, not 2 ethane

oops. i'll fix that soon. is that why you put the "higher quality" tag on?

[edit] Aldol images

Hello Eugene Kwan, The aldol reaction page is turning out to be really fantastic. Thank you for your help. I have a few comments regarding your images:

  1. Don't put more than one scheme on a single image. This allows for more modularity and makes the images more useful.
  2. Try not to put text on an scheme. Sometimes this is necessary, but try to minimize the text. Remember, the page will be translated into about 24 different languages, and if you have english text on the image, then it may need to be redrawn.
  3. Make the image names more descriptive. Like "Aldol_Reaction_Enolate_Formation2" instead of "Scheme2".
  4. Post images to the Wikipedia Commons instead of the English Wikipedia. This allows all other wikipedia properties (like Wikibooks and other language wikipedias) to use them also.
  5. Don't forget to categorize your images. Images have their own category heirarchy, so it makes things more complex. However, it's much easier for other people to find the images independently.

Don't worry about redrawing images you have already posted. If people think redrawing is necessary, they will do it themselves.

Once again, I really appreciate the efforts you've put into this article. Keep up the good work! ~K 17:38, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the hints. I'm kind of new to this. I'll have to work on the images a bit. I had a whole lot more done, but then my browser crashed, and I gave up for the night. Eugene Kwan 18:44, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Aldol

Hi. Thanks for your additions to aldol reaction. You might find this helpful: Wikipedia:Picture tutorial - it helped me quite a bit when I first started here. If you have questions or need any help, feel free to ask me anytime. You might also be interested in Wikipedia:WikiProject Chemistry. Edgar181 20:56, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chiral synthesis

Hi Eugene,

I wanted to get your opinion on this article - do you think it should be renamed asymmetric synthesis? I've usually heard asymmetric synthesis, and a Google search on the bound phrases also favours this 10:1. Since this is exactly your field, could I get your comments here? Also, if you could find any time to improve this rather weak article, it'd be great! By the way, I'm teaching details of the aldol reaction (including Evans boron enolate chemistry!) to my advanced organic students this week, I'm recommending the Wikipedia article as reading material. Thanks again for all your work there. Cheers, Walkerma 05:48, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Martingrove Collegiate Institute report on WP:RFI

As the vandalism isn't that heavy, it would probably be best if you just keep the article on your watchlist and revert/warn/report as needed (see a guide to cleaning up vandalism and the official vandalism policy). If you think sockpuppets are being used then you can request a checkuser, but I'm not sure that's needed here. Petros471 19:49, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
