[edit] Gameplay
The gameplay of Dynasty Warriors 5 is based on its predecessors, the Edit Mode from Dynasty Warriors 4 returns and gives more options for players to customize their own officers, including editing the character's hair and face. Fortunately, this game allows you to choose any motions from the original characters for your new officer, for example instead of giving your character a pike, spear or sword as of Dynasty Warriors 4, you can even give your character unique weapons like Sun Shang Xiang's chakrams or Zhuge Liang's feather fan. In addition, the stronghold feature from Dynasty Warriors 4 Empires makes their return in Dynasty Warriors 5.
[edit] Characters
This game includes the same characters from Dynasty Warriors 4 and six new characters, meaning that the game has the largest cast of characters in the entire series:
- Cao Pi - Weapon: Dual-Bladed Sword, Kingdom: Wei
- Pang De - Weapon: Twin Halberds, Kingdom: Wei
- Ling Tong - Weapon: Nunchaku, Kingdom: Wu
- Guan Ping - Weapon: Zanbato, Kingdom: Shu
- Xing Cai - Weapon: Long Fork, Kingdom: Shu
- Zuo Ci - Weapon: Magic Deck, Kingdom: Unaligned
[edit] Expansions
[edit] Dynasty Warriors 5 Xtreme Legends
Dynasty Warriors 5 Xtreme Legends (真・三國無双4 猛将伝) is a minor expansion to Dynasty Warriors 5. This game had been released on November 16, 2005 and is playable only on the Playstation 2 video game console.
Dynasty Warriors 5 Xtreme Legends does not allow the player to play Musou Mode or Free Mode if the player does not possess the original Dynasty Warriors 5 game disk. New game modes included Challenge Mode, Xtreme Mode, Destiny Mode.
Xtreme Mode is exactly the same as Shura Mode in Dynasty Warriors 5 Special, in which you are to survive as long as you can while you are to use the gold you picked up from each stage as to regain your health, increase stats temporarily, and so forth.
In Destiny Mode, you are first allowed to customize your own character. After creating your own character, you will be asked to join either Wei, Wu, or Shu. While in this mode, you will be playing as a character with very few attacks (starting off with only 2 fundamental hits) and will be "protected" by your chosen officer above you. If you are hurt, you will be healed by him continuously if near. The best thing about this mode however is the fact that at times you can be allowed to betray one force, while setting a ruse for another. For example, player receives a letter from Cao Cao in which he asks you to defect from Wu to Wei. You can respond to this by being on his side temporarily, and then move to a set position which will trigger a ruse, such as a large fleet of enemies suddenly attacking to support your "betrayal". 1 or 2 new challenge missions are available in Xtreme Legends as well.
[edit] Dynasty Warriors 5 Special
Dynasty Warriors 5 Special (Shin Sangoku Musou 4 Special) is another expansion to the game. This game is released on the 22nd of December, 2006 on the Xbox 360 and Windows XP in Japan.
Within this expansion it is known that the graphics and overall visuals will be worked on for improvement. Like in every other expansion to each game, new items will be present, and the player can choose to play on the Beginner level once again. You are now allowed to have over 100 interem saved files on your hard disk. Due to the fact that this new expansion is being released for the Xbox 360, faster loading times will be present than on the PS2. Your characters within this game will also experience higher capability levels of their skills as well. The real expansion to this game is two new modes of play. These two new modes are known as Gaiden Mode and Shura Mode.
Within Gaiden Mode, random side stories will be present for each character that are meant to be based from history. In Shura Mode, new scenarios will continue to appear while you are continuously attempting to survive. Dynasty Warriors 5 Special will of course also allow for 2 players to battle it out freely. Xbox Live compatibility is non-existent within this game for reasons unknown.
Although it incorporates features in the Playstation 2 expansion, it does not have Destiny mode and edit mode.
[edit] Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires
Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires (真・三國無双4 Empires) is the second Dynasty Warriors Empires expansion by Omega Force of Koei. Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires was released on March 28, 2006 for both the PS2 and Xbox 360 video game consoles.
This game focused upon a more generalized and focused strategy game play. Within the first part, six new scenarios will be present within Empire Mode. In Empire Mode, you will initially set up various policies within your set state by consulting with your officers and delegating responsibilities to others. Battle tactics can be discussed, thus incorporating various elements from ascended titles such as Romance of the Three Kingdoms to some extent.
Other than this new Empire mode, new items and weapons are also. An encyclopedia of every warrior within Dynasty Warriors shall also be present as an additional feature. A new feature that should have been added within some time back is the ability of being able to order your lower officers to group with you at certain areas of battle and choose which specific officers you wish to carry out these feats. Time limit can also be altered to fit your needs, and even so with the set conditions of each battle. Although nearly all Xbox 360 titles support Xbox Live, Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires does not.
In addition to the original Dynasty Warriors 5 soundtrack, this expansion adds soundtracks from previous titles, including Dynasty Warriors 2, Dynasty Warriors 3 and Dynasty Warriors 4.
[edit] Stages
Many of the stages are recreations of notable battles present historically or from the Romance of Three Kingdoms novel, while original creations became more common with the newer instalments. Here is a list of stages from Dynasty Warriors 5 and Dynasty Warriors 5: Xtreme Legends.
