Dylan (known as A Fool Such as I in Europe) is rock legend Bob Dylan's 13th studio album, released by Columbia Records in 1973.
Dylan was compiled and issued with little input from Bob Dylan himself, using outtakes drawn mostly from the Self Portrait and New Morning recording sessions. It followed the artist's departure from Columbia for Asylum Records, and the much-hyped announcement of his first major tour since 1966. Subsequently, it was seen as a cash-in and even a "revenge" move by Columbia, diluting the Dylan market just two months before the release of Planet Waves, and using outtakes from the odd and much-derided Self Portrait album.
Although Dylan received very poor reviews, it managed to hit #17 in the US and become a gold record. Perhaps not surprisingly, it became his first album never to chart in the UK, where his albums generally charted higher than in the US. It is the only non-compilation Dylan album not to be released on CD in the North American market, however it has recently surfaced as a digital download on iTunes.
[edit] Notes
A slightly different recording of Spanish is the Loving Tongue had been issued as the B-side of Dylan's 1971 single Watching the River Flow.
The album is now available on iTunes as part of the Bob Dylan: The Collection catalog download. This album has never had a U.S. CD release, and this is the only place to buy this album digitally in the U.S. You can not buy the album itself alone, but each track is available separately.
