"Dyers Eve" is the final song from Metallica's 1988 album ...And Justice for All. It was composed by Kirk Hammett, James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich.
The song's lyrical matter regards a young man trying to come to terms with his anger toward his parents, for how he was sheltered and isolated by them as a child. This topic has special relevance to frontman James Hetfield as he is known to wholly disagree with his parents' Christian Science beliefs and the stress they placed upon their family when Hetfield was a child.
Until the 2003-2004 Madly In Anger With The World tour, the band had never performed this song live.
