From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fireweed (Chamerion augustifolium) is one of the first flowering species to appear in a distressed area. It takes its name from its proliferation in areas stricken by forest fires. Its bright magenta blossoms are visible from mid July through August, and its leaves add additional color as fall or drought turn them bright red and orange. Fireweed is an edible plant; likened to asparagus, it is eaten the same way, and both its flowers and leaves can be used as tea or potherbs.
