The dusky catshark, Halaelurus canescens, is a cat shark of the family Scyliorhinidae, found from Peru and Chile to the Straits of Magellan between latitudes 9° S and 56° S, at depths of between 250 and 700 m. Its length is up to 70 cm.

The dusky catshark is found on the upper continental slopes primarily on mud, but also on rock bottoms. Feeds on bottom invertebrates.

Reproduction is oviparous, with a single egg per oviduct at a time.
