I used to be a Wikipedia administrator. My past administrative actions are available for scrutiny here: block, protection, deletion. If you are looking for an admin, have a look at Wikipedia:Requests for administrator attention or Wikipedia:List of administrators.

Past projects

  • Working on removing fair use violations. Copyright violations could threaten the very existence of Wikipedia. I don't do this anymore. It's going to take a serious lawsuit, or a situation like the Essjay controversy where Wikipedia is shredded before the public eye before anything serious is done about this. Any work in this area is ultimately futile. I can't tell you how many times I was reverted. Combined with the fact that this problem is constantly getting worse, there just isn't any point. It's wasted time and effort. When Wikipedia decides to put some teeth into its copyright policies, then such work will no longer be futile.
  • Monitor Wikipedia:Requests for adminship and associated pages. Aiding the RfA process through a variety of means, monitoring WT:RFA, collecting data and providing summaries of same, and etc. Worthless effort. Why? Because RfA is failing at its job. It will be replaced by another system. See [1] and Wikipedia:Bureaucrats'_noticeboard/archive5#Redesigning_adminship:_the_issue_of_scale. In the interests of the projects goals, it is best if RfA collapses sooner rather than later. Collecting data on how it is behaving is obsolete; it's obvious (blatantly so) that it is broken.
  • Complete updating information on Spruance class destroyers. This was an important Cold War class of ships. Believe in the power of eventualism. Or maybe nobody will ever care enough :) *shrug*

    • Resigned adminship 5 March 2007. By resigning my adminship it gives me the opportunity to speak against a number of problems at Wikipedia without people making attempts at threatening my adminship, which detract from the conversations. Interestingly enough, there were at least two and possibly three implied threats to block me for raising protest, even after I resigned. Disappointing, as it detracts from the conversation as noted earlier. Further, enough of the community apparently view my contributions as divisive, unwanted, interfering, officious, demeaning, policy wonking, and inflexible that my presence in virtually any capacity is a detriment to the project.
  • Milestones post resignation and withdrawal from most functions
    • Successfully argued for the destruction of the use of a clerk corps at WP:CHU and WP:CHU/U, which opened the doors for all good-faith editors to assist in those areas. 6 March 2007
    • Successfully argued for the removal of obstacles to helping out at WP:RFCU. The term "clerk" remains, thus dissimilar to WP:CHU "assistance", but the standby list has been deprecated and people who are willing to help are not prevented from doing so by having to wait on an interminable waitlist. 9 March 2007
