Durban street circuit

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Coordinates: 29°50′17.96″S, 31°2′3.77″E The Durban street circuit is a temporary street circuit, used for the 2005-06 A1 Grand Prix of Nations, South Africa on the weekend of January 29, 2006.

A 3.2 kilometre, (2 mile) 11 corner circuit, the A1 Grand Prix race held on this circuit was international racing's first return to South Africa since the 1993 South African Grand Prix.

Similar to the Circuit de Monaco, the Durban Street Circuit is heavily constrained by the location of the streets, both in what shape the circuit takes, and where the grandstands can be placed. Despite this, seating for 22,000 was able to be constructed.

The circuit was a big favourite with drivers and fans. It has retained its place on the A1GP calendar for the 2006-2007 season. The race is expected to take place on February 25th 2007.

Rumors claims that a future South African Formula 1 Grand Prix will possibly be raced here however there are no official sources at this time that has confirmed any future South African Grand Prix.
